
ILLEGAL ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT
MARIO AVILA-VASQUEZ, age 29, a resident of Honduras, pled guilty in federal court yesterday before U. S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to illegal re-entry by a removed alien, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the factual basis, AVILA-VASQUEZ admitted that he is an alien who had previously been deported and that on October 3, 2009, he was unlawfully found in the United States in Orleans Parish, Louisiana without having obtained the proper consent. AVILA-VASQUEZ also admitted that he has a prior aggravated felony conviction.
The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of twenty (20) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for March 31, 2010
The case was investigated by the U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
