WOMAN CHARGED WITH BANK THEFT PLEADS GUILTY
EDMONIA HALEY, age 44, of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court yesterday before U.S. District Judge Helen Berrigan to bank theft, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, HALEY admitted that she stole approximately $3,125.75 from the New Orleans Firemen’s Federal Credit Union (NOFFCU) between August 29, 2005 and September 6, 2006. In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, NOFFCU suffered a computer malfunction that allowed unfettered access to cash for NOFFCU account holders through ATM machines. Knowing this, HALEY intentionally overdrew her NOFFCU account by $3,125.75.
HALEY faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. HALEY is set for sentencing on May 12, 2010.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney G. Dall Kammer.
