MERAUX MAN INDICTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

RODNEY HENDERSON, age 37, a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, was charged today by a Federal Grand Jury in a two-count indictment for federal firearm violations, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the indictment, on June 16, 2009, HENDERSON was in found to be in possession of two firearms, a Ruger model P95 9mm caliber pistol and a Ruger model Security Six, .357 caliber revolver. The indictment alleges that HENDERSON was previously convicted in Orleans Parish on January 21, 1993 of Manslaughter and on July 21, 1998 for possession of crack cocaine; both felony convictions. As such, HENDERSON was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm.

If convicted, HENDERSON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a $250,000 fine, and up to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
