ILLEGAL ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY AND SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL USE OF A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND FRAUDULENT ATTEMPTED ENTRY TO FEDERAL PROPERTY
JOSE ENRIQUE ROMERO-GONZALES, age 28, a resident of Honduras, pled guilty in federal court yesterday before U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to a two-count indictment charging him with illegal use of a Social Security number and attempted entry by false pretenses to federal property, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on March 10, 2010, ROMERO falsely represented that a Social Security number had been assigned to him by the Commissioner of Social Security with intent to deceive, for the purpose of gaining entry into the United States Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chase, Louisiana. ROMERO also pled guilty to fraudulently attempting to gain entry the United States Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chase, Louisiana.
Judge Lemmon sentenced ROMERO to approximately two months imprisonment on each count to run concurrently. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemmon sentenced ROMERO to two years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the
U. S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
