ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL REENTRY
SANTOS SAUL EXCOTO-MURILLO, age 52, a resident of Honduras, pled guilty in federal court today before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal reentry of a removed alien, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on April 27, 2010, EXCOTO, an alien who had previously been removed, was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in Orleans Parish, Louisiana without the proper consent.
EXCOTO faces a maximum statutory penalty of two years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and one year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for September 22, 2010 at 9:30 A.M.
This case was investigated as part of a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation known as Operation Cross Check Southeast. This operation targeted convicted criminal aliens throughout the Southeastern United States. United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement was assisted in this operation by the United States Marshal’s Service.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
