ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

FRANCISCO JAVIER MATA-RODRIGUEZ, age 24, a resident of Mexico, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal re-entry by a removed alien, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the factual basis, on September 20, 2010, MATA, an alien who had previously been removed from the United States, was found in the United States in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana without the proper consent. In addition, MATA admitted that on November 17, 2006, he was previously convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance in Collin County, Texas.

The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000 and three (3) years of supervised release. Sentencing has been scheduled for February 4, 2011 at 2:00 P.M.

The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Robert Weir.
