HOMER E. ROBINSON, III, age 30 and a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced in federal court yesterday by U. S. District Judge Martin L. C. Feldman to three (3) years (36 months) in federal prison for possession of heroin, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. Due to the defendant’s criminal history, the Government filed a bill of information to establish a prior conviction which raised the statutory maximum penalty to 36 months. In addition, the defendant was ordered to serve one year of supervised release following imprisonment during which time he will be under federal supervision and risks additional imprisonment if he violates any terms of his release.

According to court documents, the defendant previously pled guilty admitting on April 14, 2009, he was stopped by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Officer in an area suspect for drug activity in Metairie, Louisiana. During the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that ROBINSON an outstanding warrant for his arrest and a search incident to his arrest netted 3.42 grams of heroin.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The prosecution was by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
