NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE CRACK COCAINE
DAMON WILLIAMS, age 23, a New Orleans resident, pled guilty today, in federal court to a one count superseding bill of information charging him with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.
WILLIAMS pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to possession with intent to distribute 48.02 grams of crack cocaine. The investigation revealed that on October 3, 2007, NOPD officers executing an arrest warrant on an apartment located at 5118 Royal Street, discovered several caches of crack cocaine. WILLIAMS pled guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute more than five grams of crack cocaine.
Sentencing is schedule for February 16, 2011. For the drug counts WILLIAMS, faces a minimum term of imprisonment of five (5) years and a maximum term of imprisonment of forty (40) years and a $2,000,000.00 fine. Finally, WILLIAMS faces a term of supervised release following imprisonment of at least five (5) years.
The drug case was investigated by New Orleans Police Department, agents for the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney, Tony Gordon Sanders, pursuant Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative to prosecute serious drug and gun crimes.
