SERIAL BANK ROBBER SENTENCED IN ARMED BANK ROBBERIES

Stole Over $27,000 in Seven Bank Robberies

BALTIMORE, Maryland - James C. Davis, age 46, of Mt. Rainier, Maryland was sentenced today to 87 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for seven armed bank robberies in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s County, Maryland announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.

According to the statement of facts presented to the court as part of his guilty plea, from April 11, 2003 to July 28, 2005 Davis stole $27,739 in seven bank robberies. In each case, Davis used a gun, in one instance holding a gun to the bank teller’s head and in another instance, holding a gun to the side of a customer.

On July 28, 2005 Davis robbed the Suburban Federal Savings Bank on Ritchie Highway in Arnold of $2,840. During the course of the robbery, Davis threatened a customer by holding a gun to her side. He fled and discarded his clothes, which were stained by an exploding dye pack, along with a loaded .38 revolver, behind the bank. Approximately $2700 taken in the robbery was also recovered. Davis was identified in a photo array and confessed to the robbery.

Subsequent investigation revealed that on June 26, 2003, during a robbery of the same Suburban Federal Savings Bank, Davis held a gun to the head of a teller, stealing $2000. In addition, on April 11, 2003 and April 7, 2004 Davis robbed the Provident Bank, 4825 Glendale Road, Bowie, Maryland of $4420 and $3998, respectively; on December 29, 2003 and July 1, 2004 Davis robbed the BB&T Bank at 559 Benfield Road, Severna Park, Maryland of $8235 and $3246, respectively; and on May 18, 2005 Davis robbed the BB&T Bank at 2151 Defense Highway, Crofton, Maryland of $3,000.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the investigative work performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra L. Dwyer, who is prosecuting the case.
