Baltimore Felon Exiled to 10 Years in Prison For Possessing an Unregistered Gun

Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Christopher Jackson, age 24, of Baltimore, Maryland today to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possessing an unregistered firearm.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.

According to Jackson’s plea agreement, on May 24, 2010 Baltimore Police officers encountered Jackson in a food carry-out on Cherry Hill Road in Baltimore. One of the officers asked Jackson if he had a gun in his pocket and Jackson acknowledged that he did. The officer found a .32 caliber revolver with five rounds of ammunition in Jackson’s pocket.

Jackson was arrested and told officers that he had a gun at his residence. Officers found a sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun at Jackson’s residence, which Jackson failed to register as required by law.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore Police Department and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in this investigation and thanked Assistant United States Attorney Richard C. Kay, who prosecuted the case.
