Baltimore Felon Exiled to 15 Years in Prison for Illegal Possession of Ammunition

Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Darryl Nichols, age 34, of Baltimore, today to 15 years in prison followed by four years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of ammunition, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Blake enhanced Nichols’ sentence upon finding that he was an armed career criminal based on three previous convictions for drug offenses and resisting arrest.

According to Nichols’ plea agreement, on February 2, 2009, Baltimore City Police officers executed a search warrant at Nichols’ residence in connection with a criminal investigation. Officers recovered 497 rounds of .22 caliber, Remington Thunderbolt ammunition and five rounds of .38 caliber, Winchester ammunition, which was in plain view on a table in the living room.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked Baltimore City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy, the Baltimore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant U.S. Attorney Clinton J. Fuchs, who prosecuted the case.
