PLATTE COUNTY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO
POSSESSING CHILD PORN
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matt J. Whitworth, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Platte County, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to possessing child pornography.
Scotty B. Cain, 49, of Platte County, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Greg Kays this morning to the charge contained in a Feb. 24, 2009, federal indictment.
By pleading guilty today, Cain admitted that he was in possession of child pornography. Cain admitted that he used his computer to access the Internet and download images and movies of boys between the age of 15 and 19 engaging in sexual activity. Investigators found thousands of images of child pornography on two computers and CDs that were seized from Cain, including images of prepubescent minors.
Under the terms of today’s plea agreement, the government and the defendant jointly recommend a sentence of four years in federal prison without parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Beth Phillips. It was investigated by the Platte County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department.
