SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Licking, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm.
Edmond J. Jacob, 50, of Licking, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gary F. Fenner this morning to eight years in federal prison without parole.
On Sept. 11, 2008, Jacob pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Jacob admitted that he was in possession of a Marlin 30/30 caliber rifle on Feb. 4, 2008.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Jacob has two prior felony convictions for child molestation and prior felony convictions for statutory sodomy and possession of a controlled substance.
This case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth A. Murray. It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Texas County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department.
