FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KC MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR DISTRIBUTING CRACK,

ILLEGALLY POSSESSING A FIREARM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for distributing crack cocaine and illegally possessing a firearm.

Reginald A. Stuckey, 27, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs this morning to 15 years in federal prison without parole. Stuckey was sentenced as an armed career offender.

On Aug. 31, 2009, Stuckey pleaded guilty to distributing crack cocaine and to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Stuckey admitted that, from March 24 to May 19, 2009, he was involved in a series of undercover sales of crack cocaine to a confidential informant. During the execution of a search warrant at his residence, shortly after the last deal, law enforcement officers recovered $8,406 from Stuckey, which represented the proceeds of illegal drug trafficking and was forfeited to the government. Officers also recovered an additional 69.78 grams of crack and a loaded Ruger .45-caliber handgun from Stuckey’s residence.

Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Stuckey has two prior felony convictions for resisting arrest and a prior felony conviction for sale of a controlled substance.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David DeTar Newbert. It was investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
