Albuquerque man sentenced to five years in drug conspiracy
United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced that earlier today, Emmanuel Martinez, 29, of Albuquerque, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment for his part in a conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana in Southern New Mexico. According to the second superseding indictment, between January 2007 and December 2008, Martinez and his thirteen co-conspirators used stash houses in Santa Teresa and Mesquite, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas to store more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana before transporting the drugs to Albuquerque and Denver, Colorado for sale. The indictment also alleges that the organization used tractor trailers and flatbed trailers to smuggle the marijuana north.
On December 23, 2009, Martinez pled guilty to the second superseding indictment charging him with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Martinez has been in custody since his arrest on December 19, 2008.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico State Police, and the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, Motor Transportation Division. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah M. Davenport is the prosecutor assigned to the case.
