Previously Departed Mexican National Sentenced to 30-Month Imprisonment for Unlawful Re-Entry into United States

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 16, 2011

SANTA FE -- This morning, Chief United States District Judge Bruce D. Black sentenced Ramon Marin Salinas, 53, to a 30-month term of imprisonment based on his conviction for reentering the United States without authorization and after having previously been deported. Marin Salinas will be deported after he completes his prison sentence.

United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that Marin Salinas was arrested in Luna County by the United States Border Patrol on April 18, 2010 and has been in federal custody since that time. When he was arrested, Marin Salinas admitted being a citizen of Mexico illegally in the United States. Record checks by the United States Border Patrol revealed that Marin Salinas had been deported from the United States to Mexico on April 13, 2010 and that there was no evidence to indicate that Marin Salinas had applied for permission to enter or remain in the United States.

Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly A. Brawley prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the United States Border Patrol.
