Silver City Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Firearms Offense
LAS CRUCES – United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced that today, Adelisio Valentin Torrez, 58, of Silver City, New Mexico, pled guilty to an information charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm before United States Magistrate Judge Carmen E. Garza in federal court in Las Cruces. Torrez faces a sentence of up to ten years of imprisonment and three years of supervised release.
According to the criminal complaint, on July 30, 2010, federal agents executing a search warrant at Torrez’ residence in Silver City found a loaded Savage Model 110 rifle and a loaded .357 caliber revolver in the master bedroom. Torrez had prior felony convictions for commercial burglary, burglary and armed robbery, all in Chaves County District Court.
Torrez, who was arrested on November 18, 2010, was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond and remains out of custody pending sentencing. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Aaron O. Jordan.
