Alamogordo Man Pleads Guilty to Possession with Intent to Disbribute Crack Cocaine
LAS CRUCES – United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced that today,
Melvin Douglas Carter, 47, of Alamogordo, New Mexico pled guilty to an indictment charging
him with possession with the intent to distribute more than 5 grams of crack cocaine before
United States Magistrate Judge Lourdes A. Martinez. Carter faces a mandatory minimum
sentence of five years of imprisonment.
According to the criminal complaint, on March 18, 2010, the Alamogordo Department of
Public Safety Narcotics Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at Carter’s residence in
Alamogordo. Inside the residence, agents found 35.15 grams of crack cocaine. During his plea
hearing, Carter admitted that he intended to distribute the 35.15 grams of crack cocaine. After
his guilty plea, Carter was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s pending his sentencing
hearing.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Alamogordo
Department of Public Safety Narcotics Enforcement Unit. This case is being prosecuted by
Assistant United States Attorney Michael Nammar.
