Kansas Woman Pleads Guilty to Federal Marijuana Trafficking Charge
LAS CRUCES – On March 22, 2011 in federal court in Las Cruces, Kansas City, Kansas resident Kimmie May Renshaw, 53, pled guilty to possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that the charge arose out of conduct occurring on June 1, 2010, in Doña Ana County, New Mexico.
According to the criminal complaint, Renshaw was referred to the secondary inspection area at the United States Border Patrol checkpoint on I-25 after a drug-detecting canine alerted to the car she was driving. Inside the car, agents discovered a large duffle bag wedged between the driver’s seat and the back seat. Inside the bag, agents found 93.9 pounds of marijuana. Agents discovered an additional 21.8 pounds of marijuana in a computer box in the car.
At sentencing, Renshaw faces up to five years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and a two-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Randy Castellano and Michael Nammar.
