Los Lunas Man Sentenced to 57-Month Prison Term for Federal Firearms Conviction
ALBUQUERQUE – United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced that, this morning in federal court in Albuquerque, Dale Mansfield, 46, was sentenced to a 57-month term of imprisonment to be followed by two years of supervised release based on his guilty plea to federal firearms offenses.
Mansfield, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, was indicted on July 13, 2010 and charged (1) as a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and (2) with unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm. He was arrested on July 28, 2010 and has been in federal custody since that time.
According to the indictment, on October 13, 2009, Mansfield was in unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition in Bernalillo County. At that time, Mansfield was precluded from possessing firearms and ammunition because he previously had been convicted of two felony offenses, namely, armed robbery and possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon, in the Second Judicial District Court for the State of New Mexico (Bernalillo County). On September 10, 2010, Mansfield entered a guilty plea to both offenses charged in the indictment under a plea agreement with the United States Attorney's Office.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from the Albuquerque Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney C. Paige Messec.
