April 10, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of an indictment* against Samuel King, charging him with possession of cocaine base (“crack”) with intent to distribute, in violation of 21 U.S.C.§ 841(a)(1), (b)(1)(B); possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1); and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1)(A), all on or about November 3, 2006, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

If convicted of all charges, defendant King faces a total maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a 10 year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment, a life term of supervised release, a $2,500,000 fine, and a $300 special assessment.

This indictment is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative by the United States Attorney’s Office, all District Attorney’s Offices in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Police Department and other Police Departments, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendants are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction.
