April 19, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of an indictment* charging MELVIN PITTS with one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, one count of interference with commerce by robbery, both in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1951, and one count of carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1). These charges arise from the robbery of the Tropicanna Lounge at 1529 North 29th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 24, 2006.

If convicted of all charges, the maximum sentence is lifetime imprisonment, a mandatory term of seven years imprisonment, a $750,000 fine, five years supervised release, and a $300 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Curtis R. Douglas.
