August 1, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced that a five count information* was filed charging LORI A. TOLL with three counts of mail fraud and two counts of wilfully filing false federal income tax returns.
The information alleges that from January 2003 through November 15, 2006, defendant LORI A. TOLL engaged in a scheme to defraud her former employer, South Central Digital Leasing, the parent company of Advanced Business Equipment and Digital Leasing, located at 1129 Union Boulevard in Allentown, Pennsylvania, by means of fraudulent promises, pretenses and representations. The information further alleges that TOLL, without authorization from her employer, forged checks against her employer’s corporate checking account and made the checks payable to “Lori Toll” or “US Bank,” her issuing credit card bank, for her own personal use and benefit. Toll concealed the embezzlement of these funds by entering the checks into the accounting system and falsely recording them as payments to various vendors. As a result of the defendant’s criminal acts over the three year period, the defendant embezzled money belonging to South Central Digital Leasing and defrauded them in the amount of approximately $700,000.
The information further charges that LORI A. TOLL wilfully filed false
federal income taxes for calendar years 2004 and 2005 by knowingly failing
to report additional income in the amount of $82, 989 in 2004 and $256,056
in 2005.
If convicted, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 66
years
imprisonment, a $950,000 fine, 5 years supervised release, and restitution
to South Central Digital Leasing in the amount of approximately $700,000.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),
Allentown Resident Agency, and the Internal Revenue Service/Criminal Investigation
Division
(Bethlehem Office).
