States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced that a federal grand
jury had returned a two-count indictment* which charged Jimmy Rivera-Pagan,
Jose Vegas-Torres and Irving Cabassa-Rivera with conspiracy to possess
with intent to distribute approximately 83 kilograms of cocaine and with
possession of 5 kilograms or more of cocaine with intent to distribute.
The defendants are charged with transporting, via a commercial airline,
approximately 83 kilograms of cocaine from San Juan, Puerto Rico through
Philadelphia International Airport to New York City

If convicted the defendants each face a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment, which includes a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence, a fine of $4,000,000 and 5 years of supervised release on each count.
The case was investigated by Drug Enforcement Administration Field Offices in San Juan, Puerto Rico, New York City and Philadelphia, PA and has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Floyd J. Miller.
