July 3, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan announced the filing today of an Information* charging Robert Byron Baer, III, with intentionally accessing a protected computer and recklessly causing more than $5,000 of damage, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1030(a)(5)(A)(ii).
The information charges that the defendant hacked into a protected computer and caused the victim more than $5,000 in damage.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of five years imprisonment, a three-year period of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine, along with restitution in the amount of $6,550.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Mary E. Crawley.
