June 30, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of a four-count indictment* against Khalil Carter, a/k/a “Joe Wales,” charging him with conspiring to interfere with interstate commerce by robbery and interference with interstate commerce by robbery, in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. § 1951(a), possession of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1), and witness tampering, in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. § 1512(b)(1).

If convicted, defendant Carter faces a total maximum sentence of life imprisonment, including a 7 year mandatory term of imprisonment to be served consecutive to any other sentence imposed, up to 5 years of supervised release, a $1,000,000 fine, and a $400 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Kyriakakis.
