June 22, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of a three-count indictment* charging CHRISTOPHER McLARTY, a Jamaican national also known as “Christopher Ashley,” with unlawful re-entry into the United States after deportation, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326, unlawful possession of a firearm, Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1), and unlawful alien possession of a firearm, Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(5). The indictment alleges that on June 6, 2007, McLARTY was found in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after having been twice previously deported from the United States in 1990 and 1993, and that he possessed a loaded .32 caliber handgun.
This indictment arose out of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Defendant MCLARTY faces a maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment, three years supervised release, a $750,000 fine and a $300 special assessment.
