DELAWARE DENTIST SETTLES WITH U.S. OVER ALLEGED ILLEGAL PRESCRIPTIONS
U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan announced today that Dr. Stephen Candelora has reached a civil settlement with the government over his alleged filling of controlled substance prescriptions using an invalid DEA registration. Candelora has agreed to pay $115,000 for improper use of controlled substance registrations.
From June 14, 2002 through March 23, 2004, Dr. Candelora wrote and had filled controlled substance prescriptions using a DEA controlled substance registration that he had voluntarily surrendered for cause. During a portion of this time, Dr. Candelora was not registered to handle controlled substances in the State of Delaware. In 2003, during negotiations to obtain new registrations, Dr. Candelora represented that he had been, was, and would be compliant with all applicable laws and regulations regarding controlled substances, resulting in his obtaining DEA and Delaware controlled substance registrations anew in 2003. Dr. Candelora surrendered those registrations for cause in 2006.
