
May 16, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing today of an Indictment* against defendant DIMAS HUMBERTO MORALES, charging him with one count making a false statement in a passport application, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1542, and one count of possession of an identity document in order to defraud the United States, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1028(a)(4).
The Indictment charges that, on or about May 7, 2007, in Philadelphia, defendant DIMAS HUMBERTO MORALES, an alien and a native and citizen of Honduras, knowingly and willfully made false statements in an application for an United States passport, with the intent to induce and secure for his own use the issuance of a passport under the authority of the United States, that is, defendant DIMAS HUMBERTO MORALES stated that his name was R.R.L., that he was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was, therefore, a United States citizen, and that his Social Security Number ended with the last four digits -8690, which statements he knew to be false. The Indictment also charges that, on or about May 7, 2007, the defendant DIMAS HUMBERTO MORALES knowingly possessed an identification document other than one issued lawfully for his use, with the intent that such document be used to defraud the United States, that is, he knowingly possessed a driver’s license in the name of R.R.L., an identification document issued by the State of Pennsylvania, and a birth certificate in the name of R.R.L., an identification document issued by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, for use in applying for a United States passport.

If convicted the defendant faces a combined maximum possible sentence of 11 years imprisonment, a 3-year period of supervised release, a $350,000 fine, and a special assessment of $125.
