May 11, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the indictment* returned by the grand jury charging MAXIMO RAMON PERALTA-PICHARDO of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with being a previously deported alien who re-entered the United States without permission, with making a false statement in an application of United States passport, with making a false claim of citizenship, and with using an identification document, a driver’s license in the name of another person, to defraud the United States. The indictment charges that it was on September 29, 2006, that PERALTA gave a false name and claimed to be a United States citizen in an application for a United States passport, when in fact he was a citizen of the Dominican Republic. It further charges that PERALTA was found in the United States after having been deported, made a false claim of citizenship, and used a driver’s license in the name of another to defraud the United States in connection with his application for a United States passport.
