DAIRY OWNER CHARGED IN FEDERAL INDICTMENT
WITH HARBORING ILLEGAL ALIENS

The owner of a dairy located in May, Texas, was charged today in a federal indictment returned in Lubbock, Texas, with harboring four illegal aliens, announced United States Attorney Richard B. Roper.

The one-count federal indictment charges Yme Klaas Bosma, the owner and operator of Bosma Dairy, located at 5901 FM 1689 in May, Texas, with one count of unlawful harboring of illegal aliens for private financial gain and aiding and abetting. May, Texas, is an unincorporated community located in Brown County, Texas, near San Angelo, Texas. If convicted, Bosma, age 40, faces a maximum statutory sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

A search warrant was executed by federal agents on August 17, 2006, at the dairy and consensual searches were performed at Bosma’s two nearby residences. Bosma allowed the illegal aliens who worked for him to reside in a residence on his secluded dairy property. The illegal aliens apprehended as a result of this enforcement action were offered, and accepted voluntary returns to Mexico with safeguards.

An indictment is an accusation by a federal grand jury and a defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise Williams of the Lubbock, Texas, U.S. Attorney’s Office.
