FEDERAL JURY CONVICTS WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, MAN
ON DRUG AND FIREARMS CHARGES

Defendant Faces Up to Life Imprisonment

Following a three-day trial in Dallas, a federal jury convicted Wichita Falls, Texas, resident, Alfred William Bryant, a/k/a “Dirt,” on numerous drug and firearms charges, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper. Bryant is a member of the Kemp Edition Passé ("KEP"), a violent street gang in Wichita Falls.

Specifically, Bryant was convicted on five counts of the indictment: Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute 50 grams or more of Cocaine Base ("Crack" Cocaine), Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 grams or more of Cocaine Base, Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime, (two counts) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

During the execution of a search warrant, Bryant and an accomplice, also a member of KEP, were arrested by narcotics officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department at a "trap" house, a residence used to facilitate the street-level sale of illegal drugs. Officers discovered and seized more than 92 grams of crack cocaine, as well as a stash of powder cocaine and marijuana, all prepared for street-level distribution. The drugs seized had a street value of approximately $20,000.00. In addition, officers seized two firearms from the residence and three additional firearms and body armor from a vehicle parked in the yard.

Bryant, age 36, who has more than two prior felony drug convictions, faces two mandatory life sentences for his conviction for the drug offenses, and he faces at least 30 years imprisonment, and up to life imprisonment, for his two convictions for possessing a
firearm in furtherance of these drug trafficking crimes, sentences that must be served consecutively to his sentences for the drug convictions. In addition, Bryant faces up to 10 years imprisonment for his conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bryant is scheduled to be sentenced on August 4, 2006 by the Honorable Jerry Buchmeyer, United States Senior District Judge.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the excellent investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and officers of the Wichita Falls, Texas Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Gary Tromblay and Juan Carlos Rodriguez.
