Federal Indictment Charges Olton, Texas, Man United States Attorney Richard B. Roper announced that a federal grand jury in Lubbock, Texas, returned an indictment yesterday that charges Olton, Texas, resident, Jeffrey Glen Grissom, with the March 27, 2006, burglary of the Olton, Texas, post office. Grissom is presently in state custody following his arrest on March 30, 2006 on outstanding warrants from Hale County, Texas. According to the affidavit filed with the criminal complaint in the case, the investigation into the burglary determined that the burglar(s) opened numerous parcels and first class mail scheduled to be delivered to postal customers. At least one set of Texas license plates and at least one box of personal checks were stolen. The Texas license plates were later found in a black three-ring binder at the home where Grissom was arrested. On March 29, 2006, an individual attempted to cash one of the personal checks that had been stolen in the post office burglary a City Bank branch in Lubbock. The teller who handled the transaction recorded the Texas license plate number of the individual’s vehicle which is a vehicle known to be driven by Jeffrey Glen Grissom. An indictment is an accusation by a federal grand jury and a defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty. However, if convicted, Jeffrey Glen Grissom, age 23, faces a maximum statutory sentence of five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Olton, Texas, Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise Williams of the Lubbock, Texas, U.S. Attorney’s Office.
