FORT WORTH BANK ROBBER SENTENCED

A man who committed three bank robberies in Fort Worth, Texas, in February of this year, was sentenced today in federal court in Fort Worth, announced United States Attorney Richard B. Roper. The Honorable John McBryde, United States District Judge, sentenced Tom Curtis Johnson, III, to 70 months imprisonment, without parole. Johnson, age 23, who pled guilty in April, has been in federal custody since his arrest on February 28, 2006.

Johnson committed the following bank robberies:

• February 8, 2006 Bank of America
500 West Seventh Street, Fort Worth, Texas

• February 9, 2006 Summit Bank
3000 Alta Mesa, Fort Worth, Texas

• February 28, 2006 Bank of America
500 West Seventh Street, Fort Worth, Texas

In May, Johnson’s co-defendant, Rickey Renard Brown, age 40, also of Fort Worth, pled guilty to his involvement in the February 28, 2006, bank robbery. In pleading guilty to one count of bank robbery, Brown admitted that he drove the get-away vehicle for Johnson in that robbery. Brown is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge McBryde on August 18, 2006.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the FBI Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alan M. Buie.
