United States Attorney Richard B. Roper announced that a federal grand jury in Lubbock, Texas, has returned an indictment today that charges James Edward Peacock, David Aaron Johnson, James Glen Horton, and Erica Nicole Edwards with various felony offenses related to bank and credit union robberies in Lubbock from April 2004 to January 2006. The 10-count indictment charges each defendant with conspiracy to commit bank and credit union robbery. In addition, James Edward Peacock, age 62, and David Aaron Johnson, age 22, both of Amarillo, Texas, are each charged with two counts of aggravated bank robbery, two counts of bank robbery, two counts of aggravated credit union robbery, and two counts of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. James Glen Horton, age 39, of Amarillo, and Erica Nicole Edwards, age 22, of Amarillo, are also each charged with one count of aggravated credit union robbery and one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Peacock, Johnson and Horton are in custody and will appear in the near future before the Honorable Nancy M. Koenig, United States Magistrate Judge, for further court proceedings. A warrant was issued for Edwards’ arrest. Specifically, James Edward Peacock and David Aaron Johnson were charged with committing the following robberies: • April 21, 2004 City Bank • May 14, 2004 State National Bank
• October 4, 2004 Peoples Bank • July 20, 2005 Peoples Bank Defendants Peacock, Johnson, and Horton were also charged with committing the following robbery: • October 19, 2005 Plains Bell Federal Credit Union Defendants Peacock, Johnson, and Edwards were also charged with committing the following robbery: • January 26, 2006 Plains Bell Federal Credit Union An indictment is an accusation by a federal grand jury and a defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty. However, if convicted on all counts, James Edward Peacock and David Aaron Johnson face a minimum statutory sentence of 32 years and a maximum statutory sentence of life imprisonment; James Glen Horton and Erica Edwards face a minimum statutory sentence of 7 years and a maximum statutory sentence of life imprisonment. Each could be ordered to pay a fine and restitution. U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Lubbock Police Department, and the Amarillo Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey R. Haag. ###
