IRVING MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 10 YEARS IN
FEDERAL PRISON, WITHOUT PAROLE, FOR ARMED BANK ROBBERY

DALLAS — Irving, Texas, resident, Timothy Minh Ha, 30, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn to a total of 130 months in prison for armed bank robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper of the Northern District of Texas.

On October 6, 2006, Ha, wearing a mask and gloves, entered the Citibank, located at 6440 North MacArthur Boulevard in Dallas. Ha yelled at the employees to put their hands in the air and not sound any alarms. Ha approached two bank tellers, who were standing behind the tellers’ station, and threw a duffle bag at them, telling them to empty their drawers and fill the bag with money. Ha then instructed the bank manager to open the vault and put the money from the vault in the duffle bag. A struggle ensued between Ha and the bank manager during which Ha yelled that he had a gun. The bank manager attempted to take the gun from Ha’s hand, but the grip broke and the gun fell to the floor. Ha then fled the bank and led the officers, who were responding to the scene, on a vehicle chase. After Ha’s vehicle crashed, he was apprehended and arrested.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Dallas and Irving, Texas, Police Departments. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim McCabe.
