BANK ROBBER SENTENCED

United States Attorney Richard B. Roper announced that James Glen Horton, age 39, who committed the aggravated bank robbery of the Plains Bell Federal Credit Union (PBFCU), in Lubbock, Texas, on October 19, 2005, was sentenced yesterday in Lubbock by United States District Judge Sam R. Cummings to 84 months imprisonment.

According to documents filed in Court, on October 18, 2005, James Edward Peacock, David Aaron Johnson and James Glenn Horton drove to Lubbock from Amarillo in Johnson’s girlfriend’s (Erica Nicole Edwards) car and checked into the Motel 6 on 66th Street in Lubbock. The trio located a maroon Pontiac Grand Am that they had stolen the week prior and decided to use it to rob the PBFCU the next day. On October 19, 2005, Johnson and Horton, both wearing disguises, rushed through the main door and into the lobby of the PBFCU. Johnson pointed a .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol at a teller and yelled “This is a robbery.” Horton jumped over the counter and instructed a teller to take him to the vault where he instructed a teller to unlock a drawer and place it on the counter. Horton put the drawer in a green laundry bag he had with him. In the meantime, Johnson had been getting cash from other teller drawers. Johnson and Horton fled PBFCU through the front doors and got into the stolen maroon Pontiac Grand Am. They drove to the back of PBFCU and drove down an alley where they exited the vehicle and walked to where Peacock was waiting for them in Erica Nicole Edwards’ car.

On February 6, 2006, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents interviewed Horton and he confessed to his involvement in the robbery.

Horton’s co-defendants have been sentenced as follows: James Edward Peacock (age 62) - life imprisonment; David Aaron Johnson (age 22) - 27 years imprisonment; Erica Nicole Edwards (age 22) - 105 months imprisonment and Ivin Darrell Wozencraft (age 41) - 144 months imprisonment. All have been ordered to pay restitution.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Lubbock Police Department, and the Amarillo Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey R. Haag.
