GRAND JURY INDICTS SAN ANGELO, TEXAS, MAN ON A federal grand jury in Lubbock, Texas, returned an indictment yesterday charging San Angelo, Texas, resident, Jason Luna with four counts of identity theft. It is anticipated that Luna, 25, will surrender to federal authorities this week and appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Lubbock. According to the indictment, in November and December 2004, Luna used the identities of four different individuals to commit identity theft and obtain things of value. An indictment is an accusation by a federal grand jury and a defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty. However, if convicted, each count of the indictment carries a maximum statutory sentence of 15 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann C. Roberts of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lubbock.
