WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, MAN SENTENCED TO 15 ½ YEARS,
IN FEDERAL PRISON, WITHOUT PAROLE, ON FIREARMS CONVICTIONS

DALLAS — Carlos Jermaine Talbert, of Wichita Falls, Texas, was sentenced today by U.S. Senior District Judge Jerry Buchmeyer, to 188 months in prison, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper, of the Northern District of Texas.

Talbert, 30, a convicted felon, pled guilty in November to one count of possession of a non-registered firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. On June 22, 2006, after a brief pursuit, an officer with the Wichita Falls Police Department stopped Talbert’s vehicle because the window tint was too dark. The officer arrested Talbert, who was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, for evading arrest and searched the vehicle, where he found assorted drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded, non-registered, sawed-off shotgun.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wichita Falls, Texas, Police Department. This case was presented for federal prosecution under the Project Safe Neighborhood initiative, a federal program designed to quickly and aggressively prosecute and punish firearm-related offenses. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gary Tromblay.
