ARMED DRUG DEALER CONVICTED BY DALLAS JURY

Faces Up to Life In Prison

This week a federal jury found Javary Treymayne Trigg of Wichita Falls, Texas, guilty on all three counts of a superseding indictment, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper of the Northern District of Texas. Trigg, 28, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Trigg is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. Senior District Judge Jerry Buchmeyer on July 20, 2007. He faces a maximum statutory sentence of up to life in prison

The jury heard evidence that, on November 3, 2004, Wichita Falls Police Department officers obtained and executed a search warrant for a Wichita Falls residence maintained by Trigg. During the search, the officers entered Trigg’s residence through the barricaded front door, and saw Trigg leaving the bathroom. He had flushed multiple baggies of crack cocaine, some of which were still floating in the toilet when SWAT officers arrived.

Wichita Falls narcotics officers also recovered two loaded firearms, which were strategically placed in the house to protect Trigg’s crack cocaine trade. The house, which was largely empty, contained drug distribution paraphernalia, including scales and baggies, and cash associated with drug sales. Wichita Falls and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) experts concluded that the house was used by Trigg as a “trap house” for the sale of crack cocaine.

Trigg had previously been convicted of felonies including the possession of 15 rocks of crack cocaine in 1995 and the distribution of crack cocaine to an undercover officer in 2003. The case was adopted by the ATF and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office under the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, a nationwide effort which targets gun crime.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the ATF and the Wichita Falls Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Konig and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Booker.
