ASSISTANT U.S. ATTORNEY IN LUBBOCK, TEXAS RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS
AWARD FOR EFFORTS IN NATIONWIDE OPERATION

LUBBOCK, Texas — U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper, of the Northern District of Texas, announced that Deputy Chief Criminal Assistant U.S. Attorney Denise Bridges Williams, of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lubbock, was awarded the 2007 Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA) Director’s Award at a ceremony on Friday in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Attorney Roper said, “Denise has a truly remarkable record of outstanding achievements in making contributions to the Department of Justice. This award from the Director of the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys is not only true recognition of Denise’s dedication to duty and professionalism, but of her commitment to seeing that justice is served. She is an exemplary representative of our office and the Department of Justice.”

Ms. Williams was recognized for her outstanding prosecution of 53 defendants charged with identity theft and immigration crimes as part of a nationwide investigation centered on the employment of illegal aliens by the Swift and Company meat packing plants in Texas, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska and Minnesota. Ms. Williams was active in planning this nationwide operation and personally vetted all 295 illegals seized during the raid at Cactus, Texas, to determine those that met the agreed-upon criteria for criminal prosecution. Ms. Williams personally handled all post-arrest hearings, grand jury presentments and post indictment proceedings, and with her usual skill and ability, successfully resolved all 53 cases with guilty findings.

At the awards ceremony, 132 award recipients were recognized for their excellence in law enforcement. Recipients included Assistant U.S. Attorneys, litigation and information technology support personnel, and others who have made outstanding contributions in federal, state and local law enforcement.

“Those that we are honoring are some of the Department’s finest public servants,” said Acting Attorney General Peter D. Keisler. “Through their leadership and integrity in carrying out the Department’s mission, those of us in the Department and the citizens in the communities they serve can be proud of the duties they perform on our behalf every day. ”
