CONVICTED FELON SENTENCED TO
NEARLY FIVE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR POSSESSING FIREARM

DALLAS –– U.S. District Judge Barbara M. G. Lynn sentenced James Adam Gallaway, 27, of Dallas, to 57 months in prison, following his guilty plea in January to one count of felon in possession of a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper of the Northern District of Texas.

In January 2007, Gallaway was arrested by officers of the Dallas Police Department on a felony arrest warrant for robbery. A search of Gallaway revealed a loaded B-West 9mm handgun and a loaded magazine in his pants pocket.

Gallaway has previous felony convictions in Dallas and Collin Counties for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, in which he received 180 days in State Jail in 1999; burglary of a habitation, in which he received three years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division in 2002; and retaliation, in which he received three years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division in June 2002.

The case was adopted for federal prosecution through the Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) initiative, a federal program designed for the swift and aggressive prosecution of firearm offenses.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Dallas Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Sparks prosecuted the case.
