FEDERAL JURY CONVICTS ABILENE, TEXAS, AREA MAN ON ALL COUNTS LUBBOCK, Texas — Following a two-day trial in Lubbock before U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings, a jury convicted Dennis Ray Hagan, of Eastland, Texas, on all seven counts of an indictment charging various child pornography offenses, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper of the Northern District of Texas. Hagan, 40, was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. He faces a maximum statutory sentence of 100 years in prison, a $1.5 million fine, and a lifetime of supervised release. Judge Cummings ordered a pre-sentence investigation with sentencing to be scheduled after that investigation is completed. Specifically, the jury convicted Hagan on five counts of receipt of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of child obscenity. From January 4, 2007 through June 6, 2007, Hagan collected over 1,500 images of child pornography from the Internet onto his personal computer. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov/. U.S. Attorney Roper commended the investigative efforts of ICE. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Steve Sucsy and Amy Burch of the Lubbock, Texas, U.S. Attorney’s Office. ### |
