GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, MAN REMANDED INTO FEDERAL CUSTODY
AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO FEDERAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE

FORT WORTH, Texas — William M. Frey, 57, of Grapevine, Texas, was remanded into federal custody this morning by U.S. District Judge John McBryde, following his guilty plea to one count of possessing child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks of the Northern District of Texas. Frey, who had been on bond, faces a maximum statutory sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime of supervised release. He will be sentenced by Judge McBryde on November 24, 2010.

According to documents filed in the case, in June 2009, the Grapevine Police Department received a lead that child pornography was being viewed at a residence in Grapevine. On June 30, 2009, a search warrant was executed at Frey’s residence and he advised officers where child pornography would be located on his external hard drives. Law enforcement examined his computer and related storage media and images and videos of minor children engaged in sexually explicit conduct were discovered.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
