DALLAS MAN, WHO THREATENED THE PRESIDENT’S LIFE,
IS SENTENCED TO 27 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Defendant Posted Threat on Craigslist

DALLAS
— Brian Dean Miller, 43, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey to 27 months in federal prison for threatening the life of the President of the United States, announced U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks of the Northern District of Texas. Miller, who has been in custody since his arrest in March 2010, pleaded guilty in July 2010 to the offense charged in the one-count indictment. Miller must serve his sentence without parole.

According to documents filed in the case and testimony presented at Miller’s detention hearing, on March 21, 2010, Miller willfully wrote and posted a threat against the President of the U.S. on the Dallas “Rants & Raves” section of craigslist.org. Specifically, he posted the following: “People the time has come for revolution. It is time for Obama to die. I am dedicating my life to the death of Obama . . . .” That same day, he also stated: “I am actively working to kill the president and destroy the U.S. government.”

The U.S. Secret Service was immediately contacted about the posting by a concerned citizen in Arlington, Texas. The investigation led them to Miller, who resides in north Dallas. Miller admitted that he did, in fact, submit the threatening post on craigslist.org.

U.S. Attorney Jacks praised the investigative efforts of the U.S. Secret Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lisa J. Miller and Paul Yanowitch.
