MESQUITE, TEXAS, MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL INDICTMENT
CHARGING RECEIPT OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

DALLAS
— Brian Keith Warren, 48, of Mesquite, Texas, pleaded guilty today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Irma C. Ramirez to an indictment charging three counts of receipt of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks of the Northern District of Texas. Warren has been in custody since his arrest in August 2010 on related charges outlined in a federal criminal complaint. Warren faces a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine per count. Sentencing is set for January 18, 2011, before U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay.

According to documents filed, on August 4, 2010, agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executed a search warrant at Warren’s home, and seized several computers and multiple hard drives. A forensic examination of one of the hard drives recovered from Warren’s closet revealed at least four video files containing child pornography. Warren admitted to downloading the child pornography using a commonly available peer-to-peer software file sharing program.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The case is being investigated by ICE and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason D. Schall.
