SARAH R. SALDAÑA SWORN IN AS UNITED STATES ATTORNEY U.S. Attorney Saldaña succeeds Richard B. Roper, who served as U.S. Attorney from June 2004 to December 2008. Career prosecutor James T. Jacks has served as the court-appointed U.S. Attorney for the District since Mr. Roper left the office for private practice. U.S. Attorney Saldaña will oversee one of the largest U.S. Attorney offices in the country, having prosecutorial responsibility over more than 100 counties in the northern and western areas of Texas, encompassing 95,895 square miles, and a population greater than seven million. The 100 counties are divided into seven divisions with the headquarters office located in Dallas. There are also staffed branch offices in Fort Worth, Lubbock and Amarillo and unstaffed branch offices in San Angelo, Wichita Falls and Abilene. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas employs more than 200 people. U.S. Attorney Saldaña has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2004 and most recently served as a Deputy Criminal Chief in charge of the Fraud/Public Corruption Section. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she was in private practice at Haynes and Boone, LLP and then at Baker Botts, LLP, in Dallas. She has also worked for several federal agencies including the U.S. Departments of Labor, Housing and Urban Development and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She earned her undergraduate degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Texas A&M University - Kingsville, formerly Texas A&I University, and a law degree from Southern Methodist University. ### |
