FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTS DALLAS MAN
Day has been in federal custody since his arrested on September 2, 2011, on related charges outlined in a federal criminal complaint. According to that complaint, a detective with the Dallas Police Department, who was investigating persons involved in sharing child pornography via a peer-to-peer network, found several files indicative of child pornography that he traced to Day. A search warrant was executed at Day’s residence in Dallas and a forensic examination of the computer equipment seized revealed more than 20,000 images and videos of child pornography. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
