25-YEAR-OLD LUBBOCK MAN SENTENCED TO 97 MONTHS
FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

LUBBOCK, Texas — Andrew Stuart McDaniel, 25, of Lubbock, Texas, was sentenced this morning by U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings to 97 months in prison, following his guilty plea in August to one count of possession of child pornography. Judge Cummings also ordered that McDaniel surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on January 8, 2012, and serve a 10-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. Today’s announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas.

According to documents filed in the case, McDaniel used a file-sharing program on his computer to download images and videos of child pornography, and was in possession of child pornography on September 8, 2010.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The case was investigated by the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven M. Sucsy of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lubbock, Texas, was in charge of the prosecution.
