DALLAS MAN CONVICTED BY FEDERAL JURY ON DRUG
DISTRIBUTION CHARGES

Defendant was a fugitive who had been on the run since 2006

DALLAS — Following a four-day trial before U.S. District Judge Royal Furgeson, a federal jury has convicted Adrian Montiel, 56, of Dallas, Texas, on one count of a superceding indictment charging him with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. The announcement was made today by U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña, of the Northern District of Texas. Montiel was apprehended by law enforcement agents in Brownsville, Texas, in September 2011, nearly six years after a federal warrant was issued for his arrest. He faces 10 years to life in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has not been set.

According to documents filed in the case, from November 2002 through February 16, 2006, Montiel and his co-conspirators were involved in a drug trafficking conspiracy in the Dallas, Texas, area. During this time, Montiel would transport methamphetamine from Mexico to the United States for distribution by his co-conspirators.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Phelesa Guy and Suzanna Etessam are in charge of the prosecution.
